Television: The Web of a Nation

I had not seen this internet until I went over to Gracie Green's house to play sheepshead. She has the America Online to get the letters from her daughter down in Florida. Slim Hatchings and Helen Frankenthaler were late because the bus from the senior center had a flat tire. So, Gracie and I put on a pot of decaf and Gracie put us on the America Online so I could look around and see what all this internet business was about.

As one of the members of the seniors in this country, I say that I couldn't be more excited about the way the young people are building this here internet. I can shop and watch programs and get the news. Until now, we could only do all these things via the television.

I remember when I got my first television. I'd been working down at the plant for about 5 years and Harry Ellison at work got one. So, being whippersnappers with pockets full of nickels, we all had to get one. Most of the pictures were fuzzy and the screen was small on my first television. Just like the way this internet looked on Gracie's computer machine.

There has been a lot of talk on the television about this internet having bad programs and the picture is not so good. I say, "Gollywash" to all those nattering nabobs of negativity. This internet looks to me like it is going to be the future for America and the world. My days here on God's green earth may be very few and I may not live to see this internet built up like they say it is going to be. But I would love to hear what these nabobs are saying when the internet becomes something as great as television.

editor's note: "Ole Sherm", as we call him to his face, or "The Biswick", as we call him behind it, doesn't have email, and thinks computers are taking away jobs from nice American undereducated laborers. He can be reached via ham radio, but we're not quite sure how that works.
